Award Citation: Dr. John Grace’s outstanding achievements in fluidized bed technology and related multi-phase systems have positioned him as one of Canada’s leading chemical engineers. Since earning his doctorate at Cambridge where he focused on baffles in fluidized beds, he has published over 480 papers, book chapters and books.
A current professor and previous head of the Chemical Engineering Department at UBC, Dr. Grace is an exceptional teacher and research supervisor. As passionate about the pragmatic applications of his research as he is about the beauty of its science, he was a co-founder of Membrane Reactor Technologies Limited, an innovative start-up company concerned with hydrogen generation. As a Canada Research Chair, Dr. Grace’s dedication to clean energy and to a greener society is further evidenced by his efforts to develop new technology associated with fluidized bed combustion, gasification and CO2 capture to reduce emissions related to climate change.
