UBC Engineering students win national competition

Congratulations to the whole team, but especially our own CHBE student, Kevin Sipila (CHBE ’13) for winning first place at the 28th annual Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) held in Ottawa, March 7-9, 2013. Kevin was joined by team mates Jesse Neufeld (CIVL ’14), Andrea Palmer (MECH ’15) and Tagg Jefferson (IGEN ’13) who defeated teams from across Canada to win first place in the Consulting Engineering category. Their team presented the most innovative solution to the challenge, “Rise of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV),” developing a method to transmit UAV data effectively within the eight hour time limit. The first and second place Consulting teams will be representing Canada at the International Engineering Competition this fall.
