Prof. Giorgio Rovero, Head of the Textile Engineering school of Politecnico di Torino in Biella
He will be visiting UBC to give a conclusive talk, prior to his retirement, as he has spent some of his most scientifically fruitful years at UBC.
Topic: Green transformation of raw wool (and similar polypeptidic waste materials) into a valuable fertilizer by high temperature water hydrolysis
Key interests: fluidization to polymer upgrading, water recycling and waste material valorization, the eco-sustainability of processes

< The possible topic is the green transformation of raw wool (and similar polypeptidic waste materials) into a valuable fertilizer by high temperature water hydrolysis. The project was financed by the Life+ program of EU, and carried out from the original idea to all scale-up steps to a full scale demonstration unit, each step solving specific issues of reactivity, mass and heat transfer.
As a conclusive remark, the product of the above process can be blended with different chars produced by pyrolyzing waste fibers or agricultural byproducts in a multistage spouted bed to optimize the N to C ratio. This conclusive aspect has given me the possibility to link two important aspects of my scientific investigation, i.e. fluidization and textile processing.>
