Dr. Negar Mirvakili was recently awarded one of two BioProducts Institute Rising Star Graduate Awards. Dr. Mirvakili successfully defended her PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering in late December 2018. She also earned her BASc and MASc in Chemical and Biological Engineering at UBC.
Dr. Mirvakili has conducted research in surface science, engineering and nanotechnology since her BASc. She tailored physical and chemical properties of cellulosic fibers to create super hydrophobic surfaces with high barrier performance and strength. This work resulted in publications in journals such as ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces and Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology.
She is the recipient of numerous scholarships including the NSERC Alexander Graham Bell scholarship as well as 4 best poster/oral presentation awards. She has collaborated with international researchers at MIT and Delft University and mentored both undergraduate and MASc students.
