Department Scholarships and Awards

CHBE scholarships and awards are granted annually in May for graduating students and in September for lower years. CHBE Scholarships and awards are awarded based on merit and community service, respecting donor requests. No applications are required to the awards committee and all students meeting the stipulations of the awards are automatically considered. CHBE students are also automatically considered for Applied Science scholarships and awards which may be rotated through departments.

Alfred Flook Memorial Award   Awarded to a 4th year CHBE department student considering participation in student or departmental affairs, team work, scholarship and financial need. $175
Stuart D. Cavers Memorial Scholarship   Awarded to 4th year CHBE department student considering academic standing, character and promise in engineering. $575
Ying Ying Chan Zee Scholarship   Awarded to 4th year CHBE department student with first class standing and chosen by class to be most helpful to others academically. $125
Chemical Engineering Entrance Scholarship  Awarded to 2nd year CHBE department student. $300
Ecowaste Industries Scholarship  Awarded to a Chemical & Biological student with an interest in waste management. $450
Forty-First Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference Scholarship  Awarded to an outstanding 3rd year Chemical student. Award may be shared with and outstanding 2nd year student. $1,850
Rona A. and H. Douglas Wallis Memorial Scholarship in Chemical Engineering   Awarded to female undergraduate CHBE department student. $1,650
Francis E Murray Scholarship in Chemical Engineering     Awarded to 2nd year CHBE department student. $50
Sherman Chen Scholarship in Chemical Engineering     Scholarships totalling $3,375 awarded to 3rd and 4th year CHBE department students. $3,375
Pacific Liaicon Associates Inc. Award in Engineering   Awarded to a Chemical student focusing on project management. $425
Joel Bert Memorial Scholarship   Awarded to a 4th year Chemical & Biological Engineering student interested in applying engineering principles to human health concerns. $625
Harold D. McLellan Chemical Engineering Scholarship    Awards totalling $1,200 awarded to outstanding students entering Chemical engineering. $1,200
Chemetics Award in Engineering  Awarded to 2nd or 3rd year Chemical Engineering student in even numbered years. $1,000
William M. Gallacher Scholarship in Engineering    Scholarships totalling $1,200 awarded to CHBE department students who demonstrate community involvement on or off campus and who show an interest in oil and gas. $1,200
Tire Lyna and Ken Pinder Memorial Scholarship in Engineering    Awarded to a CHBE department student with preference to First Nations student who is academically gifted and demonstrates leadership and social concern $1,200
Chad Bennington Memorial Scholarship in Chemical and Biological Engineering   Awards totally $2,375 awarded to CHBE students who demonstrate interest, leadership and academic accomplishment in pulp and paper technologies. $2,375
Graham Sommerville Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship in Chemical and Biological Engineering    Scholarships totalling $3,300 awarded to CHBE department students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Awards based on academic standing and financial need may be considered. $3,300
Thomas Bennett Student Enrichment Memorial Award Chemical & Biological Engineering   Two $500 awards provided to CHBE department students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, leadership and social and environmental concern. $1,000
Ken Pinder Memorial Scholarship in Engineering    Awarded to a CHBE department student who is academically gifted and demonstrates leadership and social concern. $1,000
Annie M. Mack Scholarship    Awarded to a worthy and deserving student in engineering. $350
J. Fred Muir Memorial Scholarship in Engineering    Scholarships totalling $3,600 awarded to engineering students. $500
Faculty of Applied Science International Student Scholarship    Totalling $15,000, scholarships up to $5,000 each awarded to international engineering students who have completed at least 30 credits or be entering their 2nd year. Students must demonstrate strong academic achievement, engagement with ApSc and potential to make scholarly contribution in their field of study. $5,000

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Undergraduate Summer Research Award

If you are an undergraduate student who would like to get research experience in an academic setting, you should consider applying for an Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA). Through these awards, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) subsidizes eligible professors to hire students to work on their research projects. The program creates interesting research-related jobs and gives you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards

Designed for International Undergraduate students who are interested in research, the Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards subsidizes professors to hire students to work on their research projects. The program provides students with workplace experience through undergraduate research opportunities, particularly for students interested in research as a career.
