Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering

WELCOME!

The research of the Catalysis Research Laboratory is focused on developing a better understanding of the relationships between catalyst properties, reaction kinetics and reaction mechanisms, so as to assist in the design of improved catalysts and in the development of new catalytic processes.  We use both theoretical (DFT) and experimental methods and our projects focus on issues that are relevant to the Canadian energy scene.

Focus areas:

  • Hydroprocessing - primary and secondary upgrading
  • C1 catalysis - natural gas conversion and syngas conversion to alcohols.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

Hydrodenitrogenation of Heavy Gas Oil over Metal Nitrides, Carbides and Phosphides

Enhancing Prospects for High Value Uses of Bio-oil

Next Generation Hydrogen Storage Liquids

An Assessment of a Potential New Class of Selective Ring Opening Catalysts

Catalysis for Gas-to-Liquids Processes

Catalyst Recycle in a Slurry Phase Hydrocracking Reactor
