Professor Johan Foster joined UBC’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, relocating his internationally regarded research program to UBC, starting in March 2020. Prof. Foster is a Canfor-supported Chair from his recent position as an associate professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).
Prof. Foster’s research currently focuses on structuration, functionalization and fundamental aspects of reinforcement and deformation in polymers and bio-products, and the application of that science to engineering of novel implantable materials and lightweight materials, 3D printing and various responsive “smart-polymers/materials” applications.
